Wanted Petersburg shooting suspect turns himself in

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A suspect wanted in connection to a shooting incident in Petersburg who also eluded authorities following a pursuit and standoff in Chesterfield County Wednesday afternoon is now in custody.

Chesterfield Police say that 26-year-old Christopher John Jones, who was wanted in Petersburg for four counts of attempted malicious wounding, has turned himself into police. He is being held at Riverside Regional Jail.


Wednesday’s incident began at 1:20 p.m. engaged in a foot pursuit with Jones. He was chased into a neighborhood where he entered a residence in the 20200 block of Gandy Avenue. Additional police resources, including SWAT and Negotiations teams, were called to the home after officers were unable to make contact with the subject.

After a roughly six-hour long standoff, the suspect was nowhere to be found when authorities cleared the house at 7:40 p.m.
