State police release name of victim in fatal 288 crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police are investigating after 38 year old Stephen R. Wolford, of Chesterfield County died at the scene in a two-vehicle accident on Route 288 South in Chesterfield County Friday night.

The wreck occurred at 8:36 p.m. on Rte. 288 southbound, just past Lucks Lane.

According to state police, a Subaru was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and sideswiped a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Subaru then ran off the road to the right, struck an embankment and several large rocks before overturning. The driver of the Subaru, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer was not injured.

Speed is being considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
