Hampton officer accused of sex crimes before joining force

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A former Hampton police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile decades before his employment with the division.

Michael A. Anderson, 51, was arrested Friday after an investigation into allegations he sexually assaulted a juvenile in York County back in 1982.

The Hampton Police Division was made aware of the allegations on Thursday and notified the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the alleged sexual assault happened on multiple occasions at an undisclosed address in York County. The victim was known to Anderson.

Anderson was charged with five counts of forcible sodomy. He resigned from his position with the division after his arrest.

Anderson was employed with the Hampton Police Division since March 1990. He was a corporal.
