Virginia’s Year in Review: Part II

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It was a massacre in a place that was supposed to be a symbol of peace.

Nine people were shot and killed at a Charleston, S.C. church back in June. The victims were simply attending Bible study. The suspect, Dylan Roof was later arrested. He said he wanted to start a war between the races.

From the most powerful office in the state to criminal convictions. Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell was sentenced to two years in prison after a jury found him guilty on corruption charges. The Former First Lady was also part of that case. McDonnell is in the middle of appealing this verdict.

It’s a local story that went viral for good reason. The moment a Dinwiddie woman told her husband she was pregnant after 17 years of trying to have a baby was captured on video and captivated many. Little Kaleb Graves, also known as Baby Buns was born 17 weeks early, but the little online celebrity is now thriving.

A popular topic on WRIC.com was people who were curious about shark attacks after numerous human shark encounters this past summer. There were at least 10 attacks in the Carolinas alone. One man in California even decided to cash in on the jaws scare. He invented a shark deterrent for people in the water.
