RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Rain and fog are on tap for the area tonight as the last surge of moisture lifts up through the area. This will keep our overnight lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s with some warmer air to our southeast.
Thursday will be mostly cloudy after we chase any of the leftover rain out of the way in the morning. It will still be a mild day compared to the long term normal with highs in the mid to upper 50s.
New Year’s Eve will be mostly cloudy with an overnight low falling back to right around 37. New Year’s Day will be partly cloudy with highs near 50s.
The first weekend of January will be sunny and features highs between 45 and 51 with overnight lows in the upper 20s. We will start the first work week of the year off with a little bit of a chill as highs only reach the middle 40s and then lows in the middle 20s. However I see the warmer weather pattern returning potentially by mid-week which would send temperatures higher in the area.
Stormy weather could return by the first weekend of the year, but the models into the middle of the month do not support wintry precipitation at this time.
