CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — “She’s fighting real hard. My baby is fighting hard. She’s hanging in there,” the mother of a Chapel Hill baby who was shot Christmas Day said on Sunday — the same day an arrest was made in the case.
Mom Tylena Williams says she was outside with her daughter Maleah when the 1-year-old was shot on Christmas Day at an apartment complex off Trinity Court in Chapel Hill.
Police say the shots were fired from a car leaving the complex while Maleah and other children were outside playing.
“As I’m running with my child, I saw him, so he knows I know who he is, so please just help me out. I know you didn’t mean to shoot my baby, but… she shot in the head,” mom Tylena Williams says.
Maleah’s aunt and grandmother told 8News sister station WNCN that they were aware an arrest had been made and added “God is good!”
Meanwhile, little Maleah is still in critical condition.
“I keep telling my baby, like, ‘Maleah, you gotta push through. You got to,’” Tylena Williams says
But baby Maleah is fighting for her life.
“If my baby leave me, I can’t be on this Earth. I need my child. I need my child.”
A collection of toys, candles and notes – praying for Maleah to get well, have been set up in the area near the apartment where she was shot.
“My baby needs every single prayer that she can get.”
