Virginia schools split in Big Ten / ACC Challenge

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Malcolm Brodgon scored 22 points for his third straight game with at least 20 points to lead No. 10 Virginia to a 64-58 win against Ohio State on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers (6-1) won their fifth straight, but it was the first time in the streak they did not score at least 80.

Ohio State (2-4) lost its fourth in a row. Marc Loving had 19 points for the Buckeyes.

Keita Bates-Diop added 15, including a 3-pointer to pull the Buckeyes to 61-58 before Brogdon hit a pair of free throws.

Darius Thompson had 12 points in place of Cavaliers’ junior starting guard London Perrantes, who had surgery Sunday for an appendectomy.

NORTHWESTERN 81
Virginia Tech 79 F/OT

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Bryant McIntosh scored 19 points to lead Northwestern to an 81-79 overtime victory over Virginia Tech on Tuesday in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

McIntosh hit 8 of 15 for the Wildcats (6-1), who shot 47.8 percent (32 of 67) from the floor. He also grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists.

McIntosh’s layup with 27 seconds left in overtime gave the Wildcats an 81-79 lead. Virginia Tech (4-3) then called a timeout, and the Hokies’ Chris Clarke missed a baseline jumper at the buzzer that would have tied the game.

The Hokies trailed for nearly the entire second half, but tied the game on two free throws by Seth Allen with 55.3 seconds left that evened the game at 71. Both teams missed on chances to win the game in regulation.

Tre Demps added 17 points for the Wildcats, and Sanjay Lumpkin scored 12.

Allen led Virginia Tech with 25 points. Justin Bibbs added 17 while Clarke had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
