Police ID homicide victim found in ditch in Richmond apartment complex

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred at Southwood Apartments over the weekend.

At approximately 3:25 a.m. on November 28, an officer on patrol was flagged down by a person who reported hearing a gunshot fired in the apartment complex. The officer located the body of 30-year-old Misael E. Maldonado Garcia of the 4600 block of Southwood Parkway. The body was lying in a drainage ditch in the near the entrance to the apartment complex. He died of an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives are actively working all available leads and continue to gather additional information as part of the ongoing investigation.
