Sunday marks end of Thanksgiving travel period

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Many people who went away for Thanksgiving are expected to travel home Sunday.

According to AAA, nearly 47 million Americans traveled 50 miles or more for the holiday, and 42 million of those travelers drove to their Thanksgiving destination.

AAA says Sunday is the last day of the Thanksgiving travel period.

We spoke to Bruce Kerans, a Scituate resident, who told 22News he left early to avoid afternoon traffic: “That’s why I’m trying to make it through Sturbridge before it starts getting really busy, because I know there will be a lot of traffic today, later on.”

AAA says this is the seventh consecutive year Thanksgiving travel has increased, and they think low gas prices might have something to do with it.
