The governor said Monday the export deal is between Crown Orchard Co. and an Indian importer. The announcement comes amid an overseas marketing mission by McAuliffe.
In an announcement from Mumbai, McAuliffe said IG International and Crown Orchard signed an agreement that will bring deliver apples to India from Crown’s Covesville orchards southwest of Charlottesville.
India already has an appetite for Virginia apples. Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd Haymore said the state is the second-largest apple exporting state to India.
In 2014, Virginia exported about $1.6 million in apples to India. As of September of this year, the state has already exported $1.2 million in apples to India.
