(WRIC/ABC) — A picture of a new dad is making waves online after he snapped a selfie minutes before his wife gave birth to their child Tuesday.
“I sent it to my brother-in-laws [sic] and a couple of friends and they were saying how funny it was,” Gil Solano of London told ABC News. “I got on Reddit and thought, ‘Hey, this is a funny picture. I’m sure a couple of people will like it.'”
Salano, who’s originally from Texas, said he took the photo of himself before the birth of his daughter Eva, who was born at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, during wife Sarah’s 12-hour labor in the background.
Since then the selfie has racked upwards of 2.4 million views.
“It was completely just on a whim,” Gil Solano said. “Sarah during pushes, she didn’t want any distractions, didn’t want me in her face coaching.
“What I try to do is make her laugh,” he added. “I knew that would make her laugh.”
Despite the public’s concern for Sarah’s reaction to the photo going viral, the new mom is being a great sport about it.
“It didn’t bother me,” she said. “I think it’s really funny that so many comments are, ‘Oh, are you single now?'”
