Residents concerned after gunfire rings out in quiet West End neighborhood

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Over the weekend, gunshots shattered the silence of a quiet neighborhood in Richmond’s west end.

Bullets flew into homes and cars, and now residents are understandably upset. It happened early Sunday morning in the Hungary Woods subdivision.

Neighbors tell 8News a mother was feeding her newborn baby when a bullet flew through her bathroom and into her kitchen.

According to Henrico County Police, five houses and five cars were hit. Amazingly, no one was hurt.

Robert Oliver and his family just moved to the neighborhood six weeks ago.

“It does make me angry,” said Robert Oliver, who moved to the neighborhood with his family six weeks ago. “There’s a lot of little children around here and a lot of families with newborn babies and we just want everyone to be safe.”

Investigators don’t have any suspects, but they believe the shooting was linked to a party Saturday night. Officers think one of the guests opened fire. Now, neighbors want that person arrested.

“You’re not safe anywhere you go,” Oliver added. “We just moved here, but we just hope and pray everyone can stay safe.”

If you have any information, call Henrico County Police.
