MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Police officers in Horry County, South Carolina are searching a neighborhood for a small child after getting reports a woman threw the child in a creek.
According to Lt. Raul Denis, a woman walked out of the water at Shem Creek Circle and a concerned neighbor called police. The initial call to officers was in reference to a suspicious person.
The woman then knocked on the door of a resident in the neighborhood and said she threw her child in a nearby creek, Lt. Denis adds. The mother is in police custody and is being transported to Conway Hospital for “medical clearance” while officials search for the child.
The baby is believed to be five to six months old, according to Lt. Denis. Police k-9 agents are being called to the scene to aid in the search for the child.
Lt. Denis said officers are on the scene, along the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Horry County Fire Rescue, conducting an investigation. Horry County Police released a photo of the baby shortly after the search began.
