RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday morning.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2500 block of Powell Road for a report of a person down in the street. Officers arrived and found Mark A. Jefferson, 28, of the 900 block of Kingsway Road, unresponsive in the roadway who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Everybody’s in an uproar and kind of nervous, I’m sure. We are,” said Bob Darnell, who lives in the area where the man was found. “We’re so close to everybody here in the neighborhood.”
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
Forensics detectives are collecting evidence and major crimes detectives are canvassing the area for information.
“I understand from a neighbor across the street- she saw the guy walking down the street, then saw a car pull up. She heard a pop and they speeded off,” said Darnell.
