RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A $2 billion Chinese factory broke ground along the James River in Chesterfield Thursday morning.
Tranlin, a Chinese pulp and paper company, is expected to create 2,000 jobs by 2020.Governor McAuliffe says the factory is also going to transform the manufacturing industry in Virginia.
While many support bringing thousands of new jobs to the area – the state has been trying to attract more private companies to the commonwealth as government jobs continue to be lost – others say the factory is an invasive, environmentally-damaging eyesore.
