NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Nottoway County.
Police say they responded to the shooting at a home in the 5400 block of East Courthouse Road shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday. When authorities arrived, they found a deceased adult female inside the residence. An adult male and an 11-year-old male were also inside.
Investigators have determined that 35-year-old Lakisha S. Knight, of Crewe, was armed with a handgun when she broke into the residence. She then threatened at gunpoint a 63-year-old male resident. A struggle ensued between Knight and the male resident and Knight was shot, according to police. She died at the scene.
Knight’s remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination and autopsy.
Police say the adult male suffered minor injuries during an apparent struggle with the female. The juvenile was not injured.
The shooting remains under investigation. Once the investigation is completed, the results of the investigation will be provided to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for a decision on whether or not criminal charges are warranted.
