RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia War Memorial and the American Legion are teaming up to collect and properly dispose of tattered and soiled U.S. flags.
From Nov. 6 through Nov. 15, anyone with an American flag in poor condition can bring it to the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond. The flags will be retired as part of a form ceremony conducted by members of American Legion Post 84 in Henrico County.
This is the third year of the program. Candi Shelton of the Virginia War Memorial says that in the past two years, nearly 2,000 flags have been collected and properly destroyed.
