CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) – A wild pony missing for more than a month was found dead Wednesday night.

Chincoteague Police Chief Randy Mills confirmed “Dreamer’s Faith” was located on the fire company’s carnival grounds, in a corner where there is a chain link fence and several trees and bushes. A lawn maintenance contractor working in the area found the remains.

Investigators used a microchip to positively identify the pony. According to Chief Mills, there were no signs of any criminal activity and the department says the case is closed.

8News and our sister station WAVY-TV 10 have been covering the pony’s disappearance since it was reported missing. It was believed at the time the animal had been stolen. There was even a reward issued.
