Gun vandalism prompts increased police presence at Hanover schools

"There is no information to indicate there is a credible threat."

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — You may see more deputies from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office today at Lee Davis High School and Liberty Middle School after vandalism was found in bathrooms at both schools.

Authorities are working closely with school officials to investigate two incidents of vandalism at Lee Davis High School and Liberty Middle School. Authorities say both cases of vandalism depicted rudimentary pictures of a gun. The drawings were discovered on Wednesday, October 14.

There is no information to indicate there is a credible threat,” the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “However, as a common practice there will be an increase in the presence of uniform officers at both schools.”

The incidents follow several similar acts of vandalism at area schools.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking to identify the individual(s) involved in these two separate acts of vandalism. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 (CRIMES), using the keyword “iTip” followed by their tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
