Crews start arduous task of storm cleanup in the region

Some homes, businesses without power

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – VDOT crews were on hand at Mohawk and Brixham drives in Chesterfield County early Saturday morning attempting to remove a tree from the road, which has closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

VDOT officials are warning commuters and travelers to take it easy on the roads this morning – in addition to several trees being down in the region, the agency warns on road ponding. As the day moves forward, some roads may become impassable.

In Hopewell, officials are closely monitoring high waters at Lakeview Park Dam.

In addition, there are several parts of the Commonwealth expecting major flooding tonight. State leaders are asking everyone to be prepared as the rain continues.

There are also some people throughout the region who are without power. According to Dominion Virginia Power, more than 1,100 homes and businesses are dark as of 7 a.m. Saturday.
