4-year-old girl goes door-to-door raising funds for Alzheimer’s disease

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A little girl in Knoxville is already walking in preparation for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 26.

Parker Raths, 4, and her mother Meredith are going door-to-door in their neighborhood, collecting money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Her great grandmother, affectionately known as “Nana,” was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease a year ago.

Even at Parker’s young age, she can tell something is different about her Nana.

“She wasn’t in her living room. She was in her bed, because she wasn’t going to get up, because maybe she would get up if she would feel better,” Parker said.

“Our biggest warning sign was that she just kind of started wanting to stay home and not get out,” Meredith Raths recalled.

Mother and daughter will join other family members in the walk, and as they walk through their neighborhood, knocking on lots of doors, they appreciate the support through donations in honor of Nana.

“You know, I think this is wonderful. Children their age are getting so involved in things that are happening to their loved ones,” neighbor Carolyn Cox said.
