PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police are conducting a homicide investigation after two people were found dead inside a vehicle parked outside of an apartment complex in Petersburg Tuesday morning.
The murders are the fourth in the past two weeks and the 11th and 12th this year.
32-year-old Jeffrey Lundie of Dinwiddie and 31-year-old Patrick Comor of Colonial Heights were found murdered inside a car at the Summit Pointe apartment complex.
Police received the call Tuesday morning and when they arrived on the scene at Oak Lane, they discovered the two men inside the car.
“The bad thing about it, the school bus had to come up pass this crime scene. We need to do something more, get a neighborhood watch, something because this needs not to be happening in Petersburg,” said one resident who did not want to be identified.
The bodies were found in a vacant part of the complex that was being renovated, but many residents were still able to see the police activity Tuesday morning.
“I am ready to leave, because it’s terrible. It’s a beautiful place to live. I have been here like eight years and I just stay to myself,” says Sheila Ross, a Petersburg resident.
From January 1, 2015 to September 22, 2015, there were 12 homicides in Petersburg. In the same time period last year, there were 11. The Commonwealth’s Attorney is pleading with residents to come forward if they know anything about the most recent murders.
“It’s very important to get some information. This happened in a neighborhood. There are people around here, we can’t put things together on our own, we need people to talk to us. So if anybody knows anything, they need to talk to us,” says Cassandra Conover, the Commonwealth’s attorney.
Police have not announced if there are any suspects in this case. The department wants to remind citizens that they can leave anonymous tips Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
