HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County Police are investigating human remains found late Tuesday morning.
Railroad workers discovered the body on tracks near Vawter Avenue and Dill Road, near the Henrico-Richmond line.
Detectives say there was no obvious sign of trauma.
The tracks aren’t well traveled, so the body could have been there for a number of days.
Police say that’s likely.
They confirm the remains are of a man but investigators couldn’t give 8News the man’s race, age or identity.
As you can imagine, the disturbing discovery spooked some folks living nearby.
Neighbors don’t remember hearing or seeing anything unusual the last few nights.
They say gunfire isn’t out of the ordinary in this part of town but add it’s been quiet lately.
“That’s kind of unsettling,” says Elizabeth Parham, who lives nearby. “I was already thinking of making some decisions anyway as far as where I am and moving and stuff so, maybe that’s confirmation.”
Detectives are waiting on the medical examiner’s report before declaring this anything more than a death investigation.
