RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The only controllable factor for the Richmond Flying Squirrels going into the weekend was winning the series vs. Reading to give themselves a shot at an Eastern League playoff berth.
Lady Luck gave the Squirrels another break after they dropped yesterday’s game while the Altoona Curve, the team competing for the final playoff spot, also dropped theirs.
Today Richmond hung tough for nine innings to squeak out a 2-1 win over the Fightin’ Phils to keep playoff hopes alive.
The rest of Sunday was spent waiting to see if Altoona would drop a 2nd in a row to hand Richmond one last game to have a chance at the postseason.
The waiting ended as did the Squirrels dreams of back to back playoff trips faded as well. The Curve defeated the B-Mets 4-1 to secure the final Eastern League playoff berth.
The Richmond Flying Squirrels will conclude the 2015 season Monday at 12:05 p.m., a finale vs. the Fightin’ Phils.
