HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Henrico County neighborhood on edge after a serial burglar hit as many at 28 houses, just in August.
“It’s creepy,” said Suzanne Esposito, who lives nearby.
Neighbors in The Colonies at Wilde Lake, off Lauderdale Drive in Henrico County say when they saw a man walking around who didn’t belong, they knew something wasn’t right.
“He went across the street and he told us he was looking for a lost dog, “said Esposito.
They later learned that exact man is suspected of breaking into several homes in their neighborhood.
“Its unsettling and you just don’t ever want somebody coming into your home that’s not supposed to be there,” said Esposito.
Last week, police arrested 28-year-old John-Thomas Lester Howard. Police say he could be responsible for breaking into as many as 28 homes in less than a month.
“You always worry, sometimes you don’t have due diligence and you leave without locking the door or don’t have the alarm on so there is always a chance,” said Esposito.
Neighbors say their neighborhood isn’t perfect, but this crime is unusual.
“Every once in a while there is some sort of event that goes on around us but but our neighborhood is pretty safe, absolutely pretty safe,” said Esposito.
Right now there is no word on if any of the stolen items have been located. Howard is facing numerous charges.
