College student shot during weekend party

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va (WRIC) – Dinwiddie Police are investigating after a triple shooting at a party in Dinwiddie County over the weekend. The incident happened in the early morning hours of Sunday near the 20000 block of Old Stage Road.

Officials said when they arrived they had three people suffering with gun shot wounds. Two males who were transported to Southside Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, were later released.

One victim, 21-year-old Erica Jackson is still in the hospital. Jackson’s mother spoke with 8News about her daughter’s condition. Patricia Jackson said Erica Jackson’s condition has improved immensely.

“It’s a very scary thing and I just try to think positive and realize we’re going to get through it,” says Patricia Jackson.

Erica Jackson just returned to her college classes last Monday after the summer break. Her mother said she was taking dental assistant courses at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Erica’s ultimate goal is to become a dental hygienist.

Police are working to find a suspect and motive. Patricia Jackson is also hopeful that whoever shot her daughter will come forward.

“I don’t really believe that there are a lot of bad people,” said Patricia Jackson. “I think there are a lot of people that make bad choices, and would really want to think that this is one of those situations that it was someone that made a bad choice, and a good choice would be to come forward.”
