Suffolk Police Officer arrested for abduction, strangulation, domestic assault

SUFFOLK, Virginia (WRIC) — A Suffolk man was arrested and charged with several felony and misdemeanor charges associated with an alleged assault that occurred last night. Nicholas Mark Thompson, 34, was arrested Friday and charged with abduction, strangulation, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and domestic assault.

Thompson is employed as a police officer with the Suffolk Police Department. He was not on duty at the time of this incident. Thompson has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending an internal investigation.  He was transported to Western Tidewater Regional Jail following his arrest.

The victim in this incident was treated and released from the hospital.

Both the criminal and internal affairs investigations into this incident are ongoing.
