CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A man has been found guilty of assaulting a police officer after an incident at a Chesterfield restaurant in 2015.
When police responded to a call about two intoxicated males, they placed 39-year-old Brandon Cowardin under arrest for drunk in public. Police said he resisted the arrest and kicked the officer.
Officers also found a dog in a vehicle while investigating, and charged Cowardin with animal cruelty. That charge was eventually dismissed in court.
Cowardin was found guilty of assault and sentenced to serve six months in jail. He has since served that sentence.
