POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio announced that four African lion cubs were born Sunday.
The cubs were born to second-time parents Asail and Tomo, and this is the first lion cub birth at the zoo since September of 2009. All three adult lions and cubs are interacting well together, according to the zoo.
Asail’s sister Kazi is also pregnant and expected to give birth later in August.
While it wasn’t completely unexpected, the liter came as a happy surprise to the zoo staff. “We were overjoyed last week to announce that Kazi is pregnant, and absolutely elated about the successful births of her sister, Asali,” said Tom Stalf, President and CEO of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
The zoo hasn’t announced viewing information for the new lion cubs yet.
