Police identify woman killed in Chalkley Road crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A woman is dead after a head on collision on a major Chesterfield County road. Police say 40 year old Tiese G. Howard of Chesterfield was pronounced dead at the hospital after being transported following the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Chalkley Road was shut down for hours Tuesday and while neighbors say accidents are rare in the area the road does have a long history of cars running off the road.

“It was like a head on collision the front end of the truck was just demolished,” said Brenda Lowery, local a resident.

Chalkley Road was shut down after two cars hit head on. Howard was taken to the hospital where she later died. Neighbors in the area rushed to the scene to help, many saddened to learn of the death.

“I talked to some of the other neighbors and one of the guys said he had gone up talking to the woman in the truck trying to keep her talking until someone got here for help, so I am sad to hear she passed away,” said Lowery.

The other driver was not seriously hurt. While police are not yet saying what may have caused the accident, those who live nearby say speed has always been an issue

“It’s kind of 45 though here and as you can see they drive faster than 45,” said Tom Hicks who is also a resident nearby.

Hicks says brick pillars use to mark the entrance to his fathers drive way, they have now been knocked down by cars. He has even had several mail boxes fall victim to Chalkley Rd. Drivers.

“Mailbox has been hit numerous times and, in fact, here in the past two weeks, it has been completely replaced,” said Hicks.

Neighbors just hope todays accident is a reminder to drivers to always remain safe and focused behind the wheel.

At this hour police continue to investigate what went wrong. Right now there is no word on whether anyone will be charged.
