RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Racks and racks of shoes — as far as the eye can see.
“I’ve been coming to Saxon shoes all my life,” said shopper Joyce Smith.
This is where Smith turns when an outfit calls for the perfect pair. Saxon understands the love affair women have with sandals, clogs, and so much more.
“The color, the height, low, medium, high, the textures and we try to carry everything,” said Saxon Shoes President Gary Weiner.
Weiner walks down memory lane — explaining his parents opened their first store on East Grace Street in 1953. Sometimes a whole day would go by without a customer in those early days — but that’s all a thing of the past.
“Good, bad, sad, happy, hungry. You can always go shoe shopping,” said employee Kemel Patton. “That’s a woman’s panacea.”
“I like the styles, I like the selections,” said Pat Bruker.
Bruker made one purchase — and browses for more. She’s counted on Saxon since moving to Richmond 15 years ago.
“I have trouble with my feet and so they have a wide range shoes that are more accommodating,” Bruker said.
“The customer service is great, and if they don’t have the shoes, they call Fredericksburg and Fredericksburg sends them in here,” said Smith.
Two locations and personal touches keep customers coming back.
“We have the grandmothers, we have the mothers, we have the daughters now their kids are raised up to shop at Saxon’s,” said Patton. “It’s like a first name basis. Saxon’s, it’s like a family institution.”
And, a winner in the eyes of Richmond Magazine readers.
“We’re really grateful that the public sees us as the place to shop for women’s shoes in Richmond, Virginia,” said Weiner.
