RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Research shows kids are getting assigned too much homework too early in their academic careers.

The National Education Association recommends ten minutes of homework per each grade level. That means ten minutes for first grade, 20 minutes for second, and so on.

A new study has found on average first graders are getting 30 minutes of homework each night.

Meanwhile, kindergartners, who are not recommended to have any homework, are being assigned about 25 minutes each night.
