Child reported missing found alive under mobile home

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a child, who was reported missing, was found under a trailer home in West Lafayette Saturday.

The 1-year-old child was reported missing from a home in the 200 block of 52 Mobile Home Estates Saturday morning.

Officers searched the home and confirmed the child was not in the residence, but located several holes in the floor of the trailer in which a small child could fit through. Deputies removed aluminum skirting from around the trailer and found the child curled up underneath the mobile home.

Deputies said the child appeared to be in good health, but was taken to St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette as a precaution. The child was later released.

At this time, deputies do not know how long the 1-year-old boy had been under the trailer.

The Tippecanoe County Detective Division as well as the Department of Child Services was called to the scene to help with the investigation.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office has not released any names, and said the investigation is ongoing.
