Motorcyclist dies after being pulled from underneath vehicle in I-95 crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A motorcyclist passed away after a crash with a car on Interstate 95 Thursday night.

Virginia State Police are investigating the two-vehicle crash, which involved a car and a motorcycle and happened around 8:05 p.m. on I-95 southbound at mile marker 56 in Chesterfield County, just outside of Colonial Heights.

Police say the driver of the Hyundai was traveling southbound on I-95, slid off the road and hit the guardrail before going back into the interstate and striking a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle.

The biker ended up underneath the car, stuck there. Witnesses say good Samaritans pulled the motorcyclist out from under a 2013 Hyundai.

“Some really really good people kept her alive. They pulled over, they pumped her chest. They did what they needed to do to keep her alive,” a witness said.

The motorcyclist, Katoria D. Spellman, of Petersburg was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries. She succumbed to her injuries overnight, according to police.

The driver of the Hyundai was charged with reckless driving.

Weather is being considered a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
