RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond man was arrested in connection to a homicide that happened last Friday in Mosby Court.

29-year-old John J. James, Jr., of the 600 block of East Gladstone Avenue, was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of Davie L. Young, 26, of Hopewell, which occurred in the 1600 block of Gay Street. James is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police say around 7:17 p.m. on July 24, officers were called to a report of an accident near the intersection of Coalter and Redd streets. As they were responding, additional 911 calls were received about a shooting at the same location.

Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries later that night at a local hospital.

Police investigation revealed the victim was reportedly involved in an altercation with several black males, who began shooting at him. Young took cover in his SUV, which he crashed a few blocks away.

A woman who lives near where the crash occurred told 8News reporter Matthew McClellan that she heard what sounded like firecrackers, and seconds later saw a car come down the street and leave the roadway. The neighbor said the adult female in the passenger seat exited the car and screamed, “my babies, my babies.”

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Christopher Foultz at (804) 646-6996 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
