Squirrels end home-stand with 5-3 win over Akron

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Flying Squirrels had to rally late, but ended on top of the Akron Rubberducks 5-3 to close their eight game home stand 6-2.

Kelvin Marte pitched six scoreless innings for the Squirrels only giving up three hits but walking five batters in his no-decision start.

Engel Beltre only went one-for-four at the plate but scored two of Richmond’s run while also drawing a walk, Jackson Williams was two-for-four and had the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Myles Schroeder on a single.

The Flying Squirrels are on a week-long road trip that begins Thursday evening in Erie against the Sea Wolves at 7:05 p.m.
