RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richmond Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr. says one of three recent inmate deaths at the city jail was due to natural causes.
But Woody tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the cause of Javon Antoine Morris’ death won’t be determined until toxicology tests are completed.
The sheriff’s office said last week that three inmates died within a 72-hour period earlier this month. Foul play isn’t suspected in any of the deaths.
Woody says an investigation of the deaths of Shawn Samuel Jr. and Zachary Tuggle is continuing.
Woody also says the Virginia Board of Corrections gave the Richmond Justice Center unconditional certification following an audit in February.
