SUWANEE, Ga. (AP) — Four people were killed and one wounded in a shooting Wednesday morning at a home in suburban Atlanta, and officials said the suspect was known to officers from previous arrests and time in custody for minor crimes.
Officers initially found three people dead and two wounded, including the suspect, Forsyth County sheriff’s officials said. The wounded were taken to hospitals, where one died, Deputy Robin Regan said. But it wasn’t clear whether that was the suspect or the other person.
“There’s not a threat to the public,” Maj. Rick Doyle said. “The scene is contained.”
The area of the shooting, on Old Atlanta Road about 30 miles northeast of the city, includes some of metro Atlanta’s most exclusive neighborhoods. The road winds past golf course communities and expansive homes in a heavily wooded area.
But the home where the five people were shot is modest. The white, single-story, ranch-style house is a few yards from the entrance to the Olde Atlanta Club, a golf course community along the Chattahoochee River, and just north of the St. Marlo Country Club, where homes surround another golf course.
Sheriff’s officials planned to release more details of the shooting during a 10 a.m. briefing at True Way Baptist Church, a small congregation directly across the road from the house where the bodies were found.
