PETERSBURG, Va. — College Choice has ranked Virginia State University number 12 out of 104 Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU) in America. The College Choice ranking is based exclusively on factors real college freshmen said were most important to their college decision.
Ranking criteria include financial aid offerings, academic reputation, overall cost and success of graduates in the post college job market. Each of these four factors were weighted equally in the ranking and the data were derived from various publicly available sources such as the National Center of Education Statistics, U.S News and World Report and PayScale.com.
“This ranking further validates our effort to raise Virginia State University’s national profile and our commitment to our students, from the moment they step on campus to when they graduate,” said VSU Interim President Pamela V. Hammond.
Norfolk State University ranked number 23 while Hampton University ranked 2nd.
