Stinky situation: Raw sewage forces Hanover residents from apartment

HANOVER, Va. (WRIC) — Raw sewage has forced some Hanover residents out of their apartment complex as human waste has oozed out of their toilets, bathtubs and even the kitchen sink.

“Poop. Feces,” says Chickahominy Bluffs’ tenant Deavonte Bell. “And it started flooding out into the carpet and everywhere. It was coming out of the tub, coming out of the toilet and it just started flooding everything.”

Bell says waste forced his family out of their three bedroom apartment on July 4th.

Today, his unit is still uninhabitable.

Management has pulled up the carpet and baseboards, but Bell insists they won’t tell him when it will be ready for him to move back in.

“That’s feces in the tub right now. That they have yet to clean up. That’s been there since the fourth of July. Today is now the 8th of July. That’s very disgusting,” adds Bell.

Bell’s neighbor Anya White says sewage seeped into her apartment too.

“We thought it was so nasty that filth and waste was actually coming up from our toilets, our tub and our kitchen sink,” White explains.

White says the apartment manager sent workers to vaccuum up the wet mess from the bathroom floor, but they left the tub untouched.

She claims she had to clean up the feces herself.

8News reporter Kristin Smith confronted management at the Chickahominy Bluff’s apartment homes to see if they were going to help these tenants.

They gave us a number for the corporate office and asked us to get off the property.

A person at corporate told us only that they are aware of the problem and working on it.
