CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — Suspicious activity on a flight out of the Charlottesville airport Tuesday forces the pilots to turn the plane around.
And now, the FBI is taking over the investigation.
An American Airlines flight was bound for Chicago and had been in the air for about 20 minutes when a flight attendant noticed something strange.
But officials aren’t saying what it was.
The flight attendant alerted the pilots, who decided to return to the Charlottesville airport, where it landed safely.
The incident was originally reported as a possible bomb threat. The airport says that’s part of its emergency plan.
After all 53 passengers got off the plane, a bomb sniffing dog searched it, but nothing was found.
Normal airport operations resumed at around 4:15 p.m.
