HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — You can help make a dream come true for young Hanover girl battling cancer. Thirteen-year-old Iris Jacobs is trying to win $30,000 for her hospital to “dress up” its treatment rooms.
She has been in treatment there since late March. With more than 15,000 votes, she is in the running to win a contest sponsored by White Cloud.
In a video submission, asks supporters to help brighten up the rooms in the hospital. When Iris first got there, she noticed her room could use a creative touch. For a child undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment, a pop of color can go a long way. Just as Juli Smith, a close friend of Iris’ family.
“She asked me to make decorations for the other kids on the cancer ward because she said it was really scary to walk in there when there was no decorations or anything,” said Smith.
In Iris’ video, she creates a White Cloud “tissue gown” for hospital director Patrice Brylske in hopes of winning the contest. She said she wants to add a chalkboard wall and interactive lights and music to the rooms.
“Will you say yes to this dress?” the fashion-loving middle school student asks in her video. Enough “yes” votes could make treatment rooms much brighter for Iris and other young patients.
Voting ends at midnight on June 30. Click here to vote for Iris.
