(WRIC) — For the last 30 years, melanoma rates have been on the rise. It’s the deadliest type of skin cancer, and it can be lurking in places on your body you may not think of until it’s too late.

New research finds moles are no longer the most common indicator of the skin cancer Melanoma. The new study says mole-related cancer cases make up only about 20 percent of cases.

Non-mole cancers are more aggressive and are more likely to show up as tumors and cause more skin damage.
