Matt Cain solid in 1st start with Flying Squirrels

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Matt Cain made his 1st start on rehab duty for the Flying Squirrels at the Diamond tonight against the Portland Sea Dogs. He may not have gotten credit for Richmond’s 4-3 win, but throwing around 55 pitches he looked to be finding his way back out on the mound.

“It was good, good to work out the kinks,” says Cain.

He added, “It was good to get that competitive adrenaline pumping again.”

Cain pitched 3.2 innings, had two strikeouts and walked two. He gave up two earned runs, one off a double and another off a single.

He was relieved by Kelvin Marte, who came in and pitched four innings only giving up one earned run and getting credited with the win. Marte is now 5-0 this season for the Flying Squirrels.

Richmond retakes the Diamond tomorrow vs. Portland at 6:35 pm.
