CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A North Carolina man was killed Wednesday in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Caroline County.
The crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. on Interstate 95 at the 110.3 mile marker
Virginia State Police say a 2002 Mercury Villager was traveling south on Interstate 95 when the left rear tire blew out causing the vehicle to run off the road to the left, over turn twice and come to rest on its side. One person was ejected from the vehicle.
The front seat passenger, 75-year-old Lloyd A. Cardoza, of Concord, North Carolina, died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver, 68-year-old Silvany Cardoza, of Concord, North Carolina, and two other passengers were transported to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident shut down the left lane and shoulder, which have since reopened.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation into the crash.
