PRINCE GEORGE CO., Va. (WRIC) — A 12-year-old boy ran away from his Prince George County home Thursday morning, hopped in his family’s pickup truck and drove nearly 300 miles before being pulled over in Marion County, South Carolina.
Prince George County Police said they got a call from the South Carolina Highway Patrol at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon. SCHP was looking for an individual in reference to the 12-year-old found driving on the highway.
According to 8news affiliate WBTW News 13, a South Carolina trooper spotted the pickup truck and stopped it on US-501 at around 1:15. The trooper said someone called the agency to report a reckless driver in Marion County.
During the stop, the trooper reported finding two weapons inside the vehicle. The boy was taken into custody by the Marion County Department of Juvenile Justice.
Prince George County Police said the boy’s father was en route to South Carolina earlier this afternoon, but could not confirm whether or not the two had returned home.
An officer with Prince George County Police said it was a “blessing” the boy did not hurt himself or anyone else.
