Matt DiNardo visits Open Arms Christian Development Center; donations to 100,000 Meals campaign

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News has partnered up with Puritan Cleaners for the 100,000 Meals campaign.

During this two week campaign we hope to raise more than 100,000 meals for those in need in central Virginia.

8News Meteorologist Matt DiNardo visited Open Arms Christian Child Development Center to see how much food the kids and teachers collected to help those in need in our community.

“We really wanted to stress how important it was to reach out to others and help those in need,” said Chelsey Mann, a teacher at Open Arms Christian Child Development.

A lot of children in our community do need food and that is the message 8News and Puritan Cleaners are really trying to send.

People are encouraged to donate foods like peanut butter, tuna fish, rice, canned vegetables, etc. Donating money is also an option.

The food donated is immediately turned in, checked for date and quality and put into boxes and given to those in need at local food and pantries, churches and others who are in need.

We always say – “how can you help out?”  Well you can help feed a hungry child by dropping off food or funds to any Puritan Cleaners location or you can visit Puritan Cleaners or WRIC‘s website and make that secure online donation.

Also, Wednesday, June 3rd is Matt’s Great 8 Tailgate at Puritan Cleansers on 1807 Staples Mill Road. You can make a donation in person. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers and Richmond’s own American Idol Rayvon Owen will be there as well.

Stay with 8News for updates.
