First Lady of Virginia visits Richmond high school to promote healthy eating

RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) — First Lady of Virginia Dorothy McAuliffe promoted healthy eating Tuesday morning at George Wythe High School.

The high school has a new program that allows students to eat breakfast in the classroom. School Officials hope this change will encourage more kids to eat the most important meal of the day.

Statewide, only 52 percent of kids who rely on a free or reduced price meals get a school breakfast.

According to Officials, more kids will be able to have breakfast because it works better with their arrival time.

Studies show children who skip breakfast are more likely to be tardy or absent, and have a slower memory recall than kids who eat breakfast.
