Va. woman killed by log crashing through car windshield

ALTAVISTA, Va. – A Campbell County family is in shock following a freak accident on Route 29 Friday that killed a 44-year-old mother. Miraculously, her four-year-old son – sitting right in the backseat – was uninjured.

The family says Tina Catron was a mother to 6 — and a loving grandmother as well. They say they don’t know what they’ll do without her, and they’re still really just in shock that this even happened.

State Police say the accident happened around 5:45 am in the southbound lanes of Route 29, just north of Altavista. They say Tina Catron died of blunt force trauma at the scene when a log fell through the windshield.

Frank Lusk Jr was Tina’s neighbor; he says he’s been friends with her for a few years.

He says he still can’t believe she’s gone and the neighborhood just won’t be the same.

Police say no other cars were on the scene at the time, and it’s likely the log fell from a truck without the driver even knowing.

State police are continuing to look for more information on that truck.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call State Police at 434-352-7128.
