KITTY HAWK, N.C. – A Richmond area child is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in the Outer Banks Friday.
According to Kitty Hawk, N.C. police, the child, whose identity has not been released, was struck after walking into travel lanes of Virginia Dare Trail.
The seven-year-old was with two family members at the time.
Police officials said the child looked left but not right before stepping into the roadway. His family members were attempting to stop him from continuing but were unsuccessful.
The victim was flown to a hospital in Norfolk where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle has not been charged.
